Product Description

Established in 1874 in Sashima-gun, Ibaraki Prefecture, Noguchi Kumataro Tea Garden (Noguchitokutarosyoten Co., Ltd.) is a family-owned business now in its fifth generation. Sashima-gun, located in the northern part of Japan, has long been renowned as a tea production area, with Sashima-cha being the first Japanese tea exported to the United States in 1859 through negotiations with Townsend Harris, the first U.S. Consul General in Japan.

Committed to preserving the traditions and techniques cultivated over five generations, the company aims to create a new tea culture. In addition to their high-quality tea, they also offer a unique product featuring traditional Japanese craftsmanship: "INDEN."

INDEN is a traditional Japanese craft in which deerskin is decorated with intricate patterns in lacquer. One of the most iconic INDEN patterns is the dragonfly, which holds the symbolic meaning of "an auspicious pattern for victory" due to the nature of dragonflies, which can only move forward. During Japan's Warring States period, dragonflies were even referred to as "Kachimushi (victory insects)" by samurai, and their patterns were frequently used on armors and costumes.

The INDEN pattern is skillfully embossed on the product, creating a textured, three-dimensional finish that exudes a luxurious feel. The outer lid is curled inward, allowing it to open and close smoothly with excellent airtightness. The boundary between the lid and the torso is flat, further enhancing the overall luxurious appearance.

To ensure the longevity of the loose tea, the product features an airtight outer metal lid and a food-grade inner lid, effectively preserving the tea for an extended period. Measuring 155mm in height and 76mm in diameter, the product can hold approximately 200g of loose tea.

Crafted with the utmost care and attention to detail, this unique product showcases the rich cultural heritage of Japan, seamlessly blending traditional artistry with modern design sensibilities. As a testament to its quality, the product is proudly made in Japan.
